Whitehouse Ruins, Canyon de Chelly

The Whitehouse Ruins are the only site within Canyon de Chelly National Monument that is accessible to the public without a Navajo guide. The canyon was first inhabited by the Ancient Puebloans utilizing the rich soil and natural water sources as an ideal site to plant crops and raise their families in Northeastern Arizona. Later the Hopi lived in the canyon and now the Navajo Nation and the National Park Service manage the land together with about 40 Navajo families living within the canyon.
